Dronsfield's patent | Raising Roller Grinding Machine No. 209 | with enclosed motor drive
Dronsfield Brothers Limited
Atlas Works - Oldham - England
Folded advertise, with small tear and perforator holes, 28 x 21 cm.
This machine is designed to grind the card rollers used in the machines for raising or napping flannelettes, etc.
Grinding by this modern method gives better raising results, the card clothing lasts longer, and the cloth does not require the same number of passages through the raising machine to obtain the desired effect.
The machine embodies two traverse wheel grinders fitted with ball thrust bearings. One grinder is for side or " needle-point " grinding, on which is fitted a boss with consolidated emery wheels, which penetrate between the card teeth and grind them to a " needle-point." The other grinder is fitted with a solid grinding wheel for surface grinding.
The raising rollers are set in grinding contact by the parallel setting motions fitted on both sides of the machine, and which control both ends of the roller simultaneously. The roller is first " needle-pointed " and then passed over for surface grinding—this leaves the roller perfectly parallel and cylindrical.
The traverse of the grinding discs upon their tubes is operated by means of the reversing motion, and the length of the traverse is determined by the position of the movable stops on the reversing bar.
The reversing motion causes the roller being " needle-pointed " to reverse in its rotation, and allows the emery wheels to follow continuously in the spiral of the card clothing, thus avoiding any damage to the teeth.
